A new and unique internet-based course for
those wishing to fine-tune their Gaelic writing skills.
Sgilean Sgrìobhaidh Gàidhlig consists of
nine modules, each dealing with a different aspect of Gaelic grammar or
language use. The course, which is presented in visual format by the National
Union of Journalists, is entirely in Gaelic, and is designed for those who
already speak and/or read the language fluently. It starts with a section which
introduces the student to the Gaelic vocabulary associated with grammar and
then takes him or her (working individually) through modules on the accurate
usage and writing of nouns, including case, and of how to deal with adjectives
when they qualify nouns. At each stage there are exercises which test the
student’s understanding of the topic.
The course, which was designed by Gaelic
journalist and broadcaster, Ruairidh MacIlleathain, also deals with
prepositional pronouns, verbs (including the passive), modern punctuation and
spelling conventions, and it has a section on style and idiom in Gaelic
writing, as well as a final module concentrating on analysing and correcting
mistakes in copy. The cost of the course is £175.00 which includes full tutor
support from Sabhal Mor Ostaig college in Skye and accreditation.
